A sentoku and iron tsuba. Edo period, 19th century

Of mokkô shape, carved with a falcon in a blossoming plum tree, watching two flying sparrows, and orchids in iroe-takazôgan, the reverse carved with Mount Fuji and clouds and verses on Mount Fuji in flush gold inlay, signed Mitsunori with kaô in flush gold inlay. Attached, an old paper label with description of the tsuba and possibly a monogram in pencil.
Height 8.2 cm

The poem is from “Heishin kikô”, p. 10, a travelogue for the year 1616 by the famous Confucian philosopher Hayashi Razan (1583-1657).
