A large silver snakeskin beaker and cover

Tapering beaker with a moulded rim decorated with snakeskin pattern and engraved with the coat-of-arms of the von Glaubitz family and the monogram "C. F. V. G." in an oval reserve. The domed lid with corresponding decor and a spherical finial. With later, presumably 19th century, monogram engravings "H. E. F. V. G." and "W.v.H." on the underside and on the back rim. Unmarked save for an 1809 Prussian tax mark. H 24 cm, weight 409 g.
Presumably provincial Prussia, 2nd half 17th C.

This monogram points to Christoph Franz von Glaubitz (born 1667), imperial chamberlain to Leopold I, whose possessions included the town of Dyhernfurth an der Oder in Lower Silesia.
