A bronze figure of a bather
Aphrodite

A standing figure of an elegant lady without arms (presumably never attached). Bronze with a possibly later black patina, the surface rough and with numerous casting flaws. H 24.3, H with black marble base 30.5 cm.
Attributed to France, 19th C.

The small sculpture is a reproduction casting of the "Girl of Beroia", a bronze find from Macedonia, Veria, ca. 100 BC. Excavations of the Hellenistic sites began in 1861 under the French archaeologist Léon Alexandre Heuzey. The figure, meanwhile identified as Aphrodite, is today in the possession of the Glyptothek in Munich.
