A rare bronze plaque commemorating the great Prince Elector

Finely chased bronze with natural patina, minor verdigris. Round plaque depicting Prince Friedrich Wilhelm in a classical drapery. D 14.6 cm.
Prussia, late 17th / 18th C.

Numerous portraits exist of Prince Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg (1620 - 1688), who became known as the "Great Prince Elector" following his victory over the Swedish at Fehrbellin, generally depicting him in armour or in courtly attire. This Neoclassical depiction was presumably produced after his death some time in the late 17th or 18th century.
