A Dutch mortar made for Catharyna Bonsers

Golden brown cast bronze with polished natural patina. Decorated with two bands of acanthus, scrolls, floral medallions and grapes around the centre, inscribed below the rim on a broad banderole in Latin capital letters: "CATHARYNA BONSERS 1613". Two faceted handles. With some losses to the underside due to usage. H 14.2, D 16.7 cm, with pestle, weight with pestle c. 7.1 kg.
