A South German single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with blackish brown patina. Of tapering form resting on four paw feet crowned with (heavily abraded) mascarons from which issue three long angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and narrow, angular, octagonally faceted handle. H 18.5, D 16.5 cm, weight c. 5.9 kg. Includes a corresponding iron pestle. L 28.5 cm.
