A rare Italian mortar with the coat-of-arms of Caterina Cybo

Golden brown cast bronze with chocolate brown patina. Squat, tapering mortar with a slightly flared rim. Decorated with vine leaves above the base and below the rim, the centre decorated with three (severely worn) shields flanked by snakes rampant, each bearing what is presumed to be the arms of Caterina Cybo (1501 - 1557). The lower section slightly buckled due to usage, with two larger dents and several smaller dents around the rim, wear throughout. H 10.5, D 14.5 cm, weight c. 3.1 kg.
Attributed to Central Italy, 16th C.
