A large English presentation mortar

Cast bronze with golden brown patina. Cylindrical mortar on a thick, moulded base with a flaring rim. Decorated in the centre with a band of flowerheads and scallop shells. Engraved on one side with the later monogram "AF" flanked by the later date "1831" beneath the ornamental border. With dents throughout, especially to the underside. H 27.5, D 35.7 cm, weight ca. 51.8 kg.
England, presumably London, attributed to Whitechapel Bell Foundry, late 17th / early 18th C.
