A rare Schmalkalden silver columbine cup

Silver gilt goblet with a round base with seven gadroons supporting a slender shaft with a pear-form nodus. The waisted cup decorated with repoussé scrollwork and vase motifs between two rows of raised gadroons. The rim engraved with the owner's monogram "AVRGVKW". The slightly domed lid with corresponding decor surmounted by a figure of a Roman soldier holding a shield and lance. H 32.5 cm, weight 331 g.
Unidentified maker's mark "IR", most likely a member of the Schmalkalden Riess family, around 1630.
