An early pair of Hamburg silver candlesticks

Slightly tapering baluster-form shafts issuing from round, moulded feet, one engraved with a composite coat-of-arms beneath a laurel crown and monogrammed "G.v.D." H 19 cm, weight 448 and 484 g.
Marks of David Beyenburg, 1700 - 1716.

Beyenburg is the only Hamburg maker whose works show an assayer's test mark, otherwise completely untypical for Hamburg, cf. Erich Schliemann p. 38.
