A wucai gu-shaped beaker vase. Late 17th century

In the form of an archaic gu vessel with a the slender body, a slightly bulging mid-section, and a trumpet-shaped neck, decorated in underglaze-blue, green, iron-red, and aubergine in three registers to the central section with stems of flowering peonies and chrysanthemum, and to the lower section with leafy branches bearing pomegranates and peaches, the trumpet-shaped neck with a scene of Tang Xuanzong and Chang'e, goddess of the moon, at the Moon Palace. A cracked ice-border around the rim of the neck. Restored.
