Two lacquered wood figures of Niô. 19th century

Standing with legs apart, the right figure with his mouth open, holding a mallet in his raised hand, the left figure with lips tightly pressed together, holding a mallet in his left, the right hand raised in a warding off gesture. Both inserted into a low rocky base. One hand restuck, some flacking of the lacquer. A paper label of the Marnix auctioneers in Antwerp with the handwritten number 198 on one of the bases. (2)
