A four-case inrô. 19th century

Displaying three bijin in sumptuously decorated garments dancing underneath a lantern, in gold and silver hiramakie and iroe-togidashi on a black ground. Black lacquer and fundame to the inside. Signed Shunshô and red lacquer seal reading Shunshô. Inside the lid two paper labels with old collectors' numbers: 189 Shunsho (hand-written) and 155 (printed). Sentoku ojime with lilies in partially gilt relief.

According to Takao Yu the signature and seal can be attributed to Yamamoto Shunshô VI Masayuki (1774-1831), who worked after designs of Eishi and Utamaro, cf. Kindai makieshi taikan 4, in: Rokushô 20 (1996).
