A patinated bronze tripod with three male figures

One of the six attachments missing. H 89, diameter 53.5 cm.

The Roman original is housed in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples (inv. no. 27874.). Three slender, ithyphallic fauns on goat legs and paw feet carry a basket-like sacrificial bowl with two handles. The Dionysian vessel has fascinated since its excavation in the 18th century and, promoted by Piranesi's French publications, was reproduced in the 19th century.
