Nottingham 15th century

A fragment of a 15th century Nottingham alabaster relief of the Entombment

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With minimal remains of former polychromy. The right half of a relief depicting the Entombment of Christ with the three women and Nicodemus at the grave remaining largely intact.
The left edge irregular and with wear to the upper and lower edges. Abrasions, weather damage. Visibly darkened. A horizontal crack along the centre on the reverse. 31 x 17.5 x 4.5 cm.
