The ‘Grand Tour’, the extended journey though Italy main cultural centers, was undertaken mainly by British but also French and German aristocrats in the eighteenth century, soon becoming a formative experience for the upper European classes. With an exotic flare and a glamorous court, Naples, the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and an outpost of the Habsburg empire, was certainly one of the most loved destination for Grand Tourists, who often bought or commissioned views of the places they visited, to bring them home as souvenirs.
