A Mughal ivory-inlaid wooden chest. Northwest-India/Pakistan, Gujarat or Sindh. 17th century

Of rectangular form with a fall front revealing seven drawers with applied openwork polychrome panels above gold foil, surrounded by borders of inlaid flowerets, the outside with three large symmetrical flower sprays, the top and all sides with a repeat design of interlocking circles filled with small flowes, all panels of the outside with a border of undulating floral tendrils. The corners, the lock fittings, the curved handles and the ring handles of the drawers of brass. Brass padlock.
