A large Satsuma vase. Late 19th century

Of ovoid shape, painted profusely in gold and enamels with two large cartouches, one showing Susano-ô killing the dragon and the other Ameterasu stepping out from the cave and seeing herself in a mirror held up to her and Ame-no-Uzume no mikoto dancing, to the sides small cartouches filled with figures, the sagari fuji mon and large iris in gold on a dark blue ground. Signed Dai Nihon no kuni Satsuma tôki Kinseizan zô und Baishô and Shimazu-mon. To the lower body a small drilled hole for an electric cord.
