A Nagasaki black lacquer on metal and aogai inlaid lidded box. Around 1805

Of flat rectangular shape. On the lid in gold makie the bust portrait of Napoleon in a roundel, in the corners delicate flower sprays in aogai inlay, on the sides flower sprays in makie.
Height 2.7 cm; width 15.1 cm; depth 14.5 cm

The model for the portrait probably was a coloured aquatinta after Louis Leopold Boilly (1761-1845), showing the young Napoleon as the first consul of the French Republic in 1802.
