An unusually large bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni. Burma, Arakan. 18th/19th century

Seated in meditation on an hourglass-shaped stepped base, the right hand in bhumisparshamudra, the left hand in dhyanamudra above the feet. The regular rows of tiny hairlocks cover the head and ushnisha and are set off from the face by a thin band, the ushnisha is topped by a lotus bud. The eyes, pupils and the lips are contoured with fine incised lines filled with red pigment.
