A bronze figure of Amitayus. Sino-Tibetan, 17th/18th century

The transcendent buddha of infinite lifespan sits in padmasana on a double lotus throne, his hands resting in dhyana-mudra on his lap, originally holding the vase containing the nectar of life (amrta). With remains of blue cult paint in the hair and remains of paint on the unclothed parts of the body. The cover plate of the closed throne base is decorated with an engraved visvavajra (double vajra).
