A bronze processional figure of Ardhanarishvara. Southern India. In the style of the Chola period, probably 19th century

Standing in tribbhanga, clad in a short veshti secured by a jeweled girdle, his primary hands poised to play the vina, the upper left hand holding a battle-axe and a bird sitting on the right hand, adorned with a collar of necklace, the Holy Thread across his chest and the matted hair piled into a tall jatamukuta displaying a skull and the moon. Four openings to the base.
