An opulent ivory tankard with a bacchanalia scene

Decorated with a relief of Classical figures and a chariot drawn by lions. The finial formed as a dancing couple, the handle as a satyr beneath a basket of grapes, the thumbrest a small Cupid. The base decorated with wheat sheaves, oak, flowerheads, fruiting vines and four lion mascarons. One of the three music-making putti on the lid lost, as well as the flute and one leg of the one sitting in front. H 36 cm.
