Following the example of Johann Heinrich Stobwasser's successful manufactory, other manufacturers also produced tinware such as this to be decorated in lacquer. In Koblenz, Schaaffhausen & Dietz established a tinware factory in the Alte Burg. They are considered the oldest lacquerware factory in the Rhineland.
