An opulent gilt bronze casket with allegories of love

Cast bronze galvanised in gold and silver, porcelain, textile lining over wooden core. Casket with angled lid crowned by a cast bronze model of Cupid and Psyche and cornucopia appliques. The angles applied with putti as caryatids. Mounted à cage with eight porcelain panels painted with courtly couples in gardens. The frontmost cartouche engraved in Cyrillic "Whose victory?". A small piece broken out of the lid front, with an associated key. H 35, W 37, D 26.5 cm.
Attributed to France, designed for export to the Arabic region or to Russia, late 19th C.
