By repute, the piece is said to have once been in the possession of Prince Ernst zu Schwarzenberg (1773 - 1821), who was canon of Cologne cathedral as of 1782 and domicellarius of the cathdral chapter as of 1783. Following secularisation, shortly before his death, Prince Schwarzenburg became bishop of Raab in Hungars in 1819.
