A Breslau silver apostle tankard

Tapering vessel with moulded rim and angular handle. Decorated with finely engraved scrollwork surrounding 12 round medallions with portraits of the Apostles. The domed lid with corresponding decor and four further medallions depicting the Evangelists surrounding a small engraved monogram. The finial formed as a pinecone. H 23.5 cm, weight 619 g.
Marks of Johann Christoph Müller, 1731 - 1737.

According to family tradition, the engraved monogram stands for Countess Maria von Arco, wife of the Salzburg Privy Councillor and Obersthofmeister Count Georg Anton v. Arco. It is said that the tankard was acquired in Denmark from the estate of Mozart's widow Constanze, who was married in second marriage to the Danish diplomat Georg Nicolaus von Nissen and lived in Copenhagen's Lavendelstraede until 1820.
