A Meissen porcelain coffee pot with yellow ground

Vessel of quatrefoil section with original lid. Decorated with "indianische blumen" and bamboo in quatrefoil reserves. Blue crossed swords mark, dreher's mark of Andreas Schiefer. Some minor kiln ash stains, the tip of the spout restored. H 18.7 cm.
Around 1730 - 35.

Meissen began experimenting with yellow ground colour in 1723. The first pieces on which the colour was successfully used were slop bowls. In October 1734, after experimenting with individual pieces, an 82-piece dinner service with a perfect, bright yellow ground colour could finally be delivered to the court. This small jug with its beautiful yellow hue and fine enamel decoration also dates from this era.

Provenance

German private collection.
