A hollow-cast silver figure of a dignitary on a wooden chair. Shanghai. Around 1900

Seated and fixed by a silver pin on a low horseshoe-back armchair, holding a mace and an ingot-shaped vessel, the robes richly engraved with dragons, clouds and lishui. Stamped marks Shang, Yang Qinghe Faji und pin on the underside. Engraved inscription in French reading 16 Janvier 1926 and the initials MG at the back.
Height including chair 21 cm

The silver workshop of Yang Qinghe was established in Shanghai in 1775. After 1850, the workshop was divided into three branches: Jiuji, Faji and Fiji, which belonged to the family of Shao Youlian (d. 1901). The son Shao Heng continued to run the Jiuji workshop until 1935. As can be seen from the inscription, Frenchmen were among the clientele of the store, which was located on the Shanghai Bund.
