A soap stone figure of a bearded luohan. Qing dynasty, 17th/18th century

Seated in rajalila with a propped up leg and supporting himself on his left hand, he holds a scroll in his right hand, the loosely worn monastic robe finely engraved with flower medallions, the gilded garment borders displaying incised scrolls. Honey-coloured soapstone with wine red flecks and streaks. Round wooden stand.
