A Bizen double gourd vase by Kaneshige Tôyô (1896-1967)

On a slightly concave base, with two large hand-formed handles, curved and straight notches to the body and an ash glaze. Wooden box, the paper covering the lid inscribed Bizen hanaire Kamijoyaki Kaneshige Tôyô saku.
Height 21.4 cm

Kaneshige Tôyô (1896-1967) was made a "Living National Treasure" in 1956. As one of the most important researchers of the production techniques of early Bizen ceramics, his work contributed significantly to their revival in the 20th century.
