An Ayutthaya bronze head of a Buddha. Thailand. 15th/16th century

Of oval shape with curved linear brows merging into the ridge of the nose, the heavy eyelids lowered in meditation, the small mouth with engraved contour lines. The tiny locks of hair are set off from the forehead with a thin band and cover the head and ushnisha. Traces of gold leaf. Mounted on a wooden base.

Private collection, Meerbusch, according to the consigner acquired from Berthold Glauerdt, Solingen in the 1970s
