A German one of a kind 18k gold and opal pendant with a silver cast Bacchus head after a 19th century cameo.

Unique work. The cast silver plaque depicting Bacchus in a crown of vine leaves. The 18k gold mount set with nine small opal cabochons (diamter c. 3.71 mm). The fixed bail with a hinge to open it. Includes a pink silk cord with forged 21k gold hook and eye clasp. Pendant hallmarked: Fineness 750, maker's mark. 4.9 x 3.6 cm. Total weight 30.23 g.

Based on a 19th century malachite cameo with a broken nose. The goldsmith took a cast of the cameo, sculpted a new nose and made a lost-wax cast in silver.
