An Augsburg silver gilt renaissance tankard

Slender basal ring supporting a cylindrical vessel decorated with three repoussé mascarons amid scroll- and strapwork and fruit garlands. The solid cast handle with an armoured male herm, the domed lid with corresponding decor and a baluster-form finial. The thumb rest formed as a figure of young Bacchus sitting on a barrel. H 13 cm, weight 347 g.
Philipp I or Philipp II Zwitzel, 1602 - 1606.
