A pair of monumental bronze altar vases. 19th century

The lobed and splayed foot surmounted by a globular body and tall neck with trumpet-shaped mouth and two large phoenix handles, to body and neck cartouches rendered in openwork with shishi amidst peonies and dragon amidst clouds, the body covered with clouds, scroll and lancet shapes on an archaistic spiral ground. At the base cast mark reading Dai Nihon Bunsei nen Seimin shū. Metal inset. (2)

The mark which contains the name of the famous bronze caster Murata Seimin and the era name of Bunsei (1818-1830) is considered a honorific mark.
