A Gujarati/Rajasthani brass Jain altar of tirthankara Ajitanatha. Western India. Dated 1402

With a silver shrivatsa on his chest, seated in meditation on a throne supported by two lions, underneath an umbrella held by two elephants. The cognisance (cihna) between the two lions shows an elephant, the chihna of the fifth tirthankara. Ajitanatha is surrounded by seated and standing jinas, on the front of the base the Nine Planets (navagraha) and devotees. Inscription at the back dated samvat 1459 (1402).
