An Aka-Raku serving dish. Kyoto. Edo period, 17th century

Of round shape with a vertical wall on a wide recessed foot, entirely covered with a salmon-coloured glaze and displaying in white-line drawing a shishi surrounded by clouds on the inside and two ornamental bands with cross-hatching and undulating lines to the outside. At the base stamped Raku underneath the glaze. Wooden box without lid.
Height 9 cm; diameter 17.8 cm
