The Virgin Mary with Elisabeth, Jesus and St. John

Moulded glass panel painted on reverse in eglomisé technique with gold and silver leaf and opaque and transparent pigments. Retouches. Walnut veneered and gilded frame, H 30.8, W 27.7 cm.
The group of figures is based on a motif by Raphael published by the engraver Marcantonio Raimondi (c. 1470 - c. 1534). The reverse glass painter dispensed with the palm tree that gives the original its name, the "Madonna della Palma". Instead of the palm tree and the wooden hut on the left, mountains and a fortress with houses have been added in the background.
