Vincenz Janke, Northern Bohemia, late 18th / early 19th C.
Glass panel painted on reverse in gold-bronze, opaque and transparent pigments against black ground. With retouches. Walnut veneered ebonised softwood frame, H 35.5, W 27 cm.
This reverse glass painting is based on an engraving by the Augsburg artist Jeremias Wachsmuth (1711/12 – 1771), which was published by Johann Georg Hertel and is here reproduced in reverse.
