An Empire style silver gilt wine cooler

Round vessel with a grapevine frieze on four finely chased sphinx supports. The detailed, sculpted snake handles hang from relief faun mascarons. The outer surface applied with Classical style figures of Hercules with the pelt of the Nemean lion and a bacchante. H 28 cm, weight 2,671 g.
Paris, Maison Odiot, 1984 - 1994.

Odiot's design sketches and the original wine coolers from the year 1798 are today housed in the Art Institute of Chicago (1986.223a-b).
