Piz Maroz und Maroztal

Watercolour on watercolour laid paper. 57.5 x 78.5 cm. Signed 'C-PORGES' in blue lower right. - Very fresh colours, mounted on the backing card verso at the margins. With a very short tear in the lower right, the lower left corner with a faint crease.

In Berlin, Clara Sommer, later Porges, had studied under Max Liebermann and Walter Leistikow before moving to Munich and Switzerland. In 1918, she moved to Sils-Maria, where, like Hodler, Segantini and Giovanni Giacometti, she captured symbolist, fantastical motifs of the Swiss mountains.
