Hans Purrmann

Landschaft bei Langenargen
1923

Oil on canvas, mounted on wood. 23 x 29.8 cm. Framed. Signed 'H. Purrmann' in black lower right. - In fine condition with fresh colours.

This charming landscape painting was created in 1923 in Langenargen on Lake Constance, where Hans Purrmann had purchased a fisherman's house directly on the lake in 1919. At the beginning of the 1920s, Purrmann commuted between the metropolis of Berlin and the tranquil, peaceful town of Langenargen, where he usually spent the summer months. Away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin, he created numerous landscapes here in radiant colours and a light, almost fluid painting style.
Like "Garten der Villa Romana" (Lot 44, Lempertz Auction 1247, 4 June 2024), the painting on offer comes from the estate of Elisabeth Heintz, Purrmann's long-time secretary and close confidante during his time in Ticino.
