Ewald Mataré

Dreieck-Kuh III
Circa 1943

Iron. Height 6 cm, width 20.9 cm, depth 6.4 cm. Unsigned. Lifetime cast. - Dark brown patina.

Based on the original sculpture carved in ebony in 1942, this example is a rare early iron cast from Mataré's lifetime, before the four bronze casts from his estate known to date.
In the Cistercian monastery of Eberbach, where Mataré spent the summer from 1942 to 1944, he created a small suite of four "Dreieck-Kühen" (I-IV) based on the same triangular form.
