Pencil and frottage on paper, mounted on card. 16.2 x 14.9 cm. Framed under glass. Signed, dated and titled '1925 la mer et la pluie max ernst' at lower edge. - Faint light-stain in mat opening.
The frottage "la mer et la pluie" was created in connection with the "Histoire Naturelle", the "Natural History", which appeared in 1926 and was published in a second edition in 1972. The special charm of the frottages from this period is the intention not to depict anything when rubbing through the paper and to leave the motif to the viewer's associations.
