A pair of polychrome-glazed Shiwan ware guardian lions. Qing dynasty, early 19th century

Mirror pair of Buddhist guardian lions on rectangular bases, covered with thick lead glazes in the colours green, blue, yellow and white. Both probably modelled after male Pekingese palace dogs, leaning on a brocade ball with one front paw.
