A large ivory netsuke of a grazing horse. Late 18th century

Standing in balance, the hooves closely placed together, and the head lowered, the back covered by a large cloth with engraved floral and geometric patterns which hide the age cracks. Eye pupils of black horn.
Height 5.9 cm

Provenance

Private collection, Rhineland Palatinate, acquired in the German art trade in the 1970s/1980s, the present piece purchased from Offermann & Schmitz, Wuppertal
