A very large embroidered red felt panel. Late 19th century

In the centre panel in satin stitch a stag with a lingzhi in its mouth under a pine tree and a deciduous tree, surrounded by peonies and asters, above the stag a bat, above the trees a flying crane and a sun, to all sides a thin meander border with flowers and a wide border with butterflies and emblems. Details in couched paper threads wrapped in gold. A dedicatory inscription (threads have been removed) on the occasion of the birthday of Nian Yu listing four named and unnamed donors and two seals. The lower border tucked in. Cotton lining.
