A NOTTINGHAM ALABASTER HEAD OF JOHN THE BAPTIST, 2ND HALF 15TH CENTURY

Alabaster, partially polychrome, Nottingham 2nd half 15th C. (GR 2.208)
The left side has broken off and been replaced, the right side with losses. Height 18.5 cm, depth 7.5 cm.

A Nottingham alabaster head of John the Baptist, 2nd half 15th century. Presumably with original partial polychromy, carved three quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. The head of the Saint is shown with eyes closed and mouth open, originally meant to be presented on a dish.
