A small bronze relief, Northern Italy, 2nd half 16th C.
Minor wear. 12 x 16.5 x 1.5 cm.

A small North Italian bronze relief of the Entombment of Christ, 2nd half 16th century. A high-relief depiction of numerous figures attending Christ's entombment. His body is being placed in a stone sarcophagus, bearing a Latin inscription, by Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea and Saint John. The kneeling Virgin can be seen among the mourners to the right of the relief, and Mary Magdalene holding the jar of ointment to the left.
