A Seto mizuzashi with a straight body covered by a thin brown glaze. Mino area. Edo period or earlier. Black lacquer lid. Inscribed wooden box, two pieces of cloth.
Height 14.8 cm; diameter 14.6 cm

The inscription to the outside of the lid reads Seto mizuzashi, the inscription on the inside of the lid is by Kushi Takushin (1898-1974), whose inscription dates the mizuzashi to the Muromachi period and is signed Kushi Takushin and sealed Takushin no in.
Kushi Takushin was a Japanese art historian, well know for his publications on Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics.
